ACCA AAAAdvanced Audit and Assurance (INT)

Prepare for ACCA AAA by making audit judgements from the evidence in a case. Prioritise risks, design relevant procedures and explain how unresolved issues affect the auditor’s report.

The syllabus, connected

What AAA asks you to do.

A–C · Regulation, ethics and practice

Evaluate independence, acceptance, quality management and professional responsibilities.

D · Planning and audit work

Distinguish business risks from misstatement risks; set materiality and design evidence-focused procedures.

E · Completion and reporting

Evaluate evidence, unresolved issues and the implications for reporting.

F–G · Other engagements and current issues

Apply assurance thinking to other assignments and emerging professional issues.

H–I · Professional judgement and digital skills

Prioritise, challenge unsupported claims and communicate a defensible audit judgement.

What the exam looks like

3 hours 15 minutes. A compulsory 50-mark planning case plus two compulsory 25-mark questions, with twenty professional-skills marks. Typical tasks evaluate risks, evidence, ethical issues and reporting decisions. INT and UK/Irish requirements are not interchangeable.

Prepare the audit planning assessment

Evaluate and prioritise misstatement risks, justify materiality and identify relevant evidence.

Review completion and reporting

Assess unresolved findings, going concern or subsequent events and their reporting consequences.

Evaluate an additional engagement

Consider acceptance, independence and the work needed for due diligence or another assurance assignment.

Syllabus updates and the 2027 transition

No syllabus content change for September 2026–June 2027 in the ACCA change notice. Check the applicable INT/UK examinable-document list and your intended audit-qualification route.

Learn from examiner observations

Turn exam feedback into a preparation habit.

March/June 2026

mix up business risk and RoMM
  • Use the requested perspective: a business risk concerns the business; a misstatement risk needs an accounting effect. Do not substitute audit responses when only risk evaluation is requested.
  • Calculate the requested materiality range, choose and justify a threshold using specific risk factors, then apply it consistently. Merely saying 'high risk' is insufficient.

September/December 2025

evaluate AND prioritise the RoMMs
  • Explain significance and prioritise misstatement risks using the case. For procedures, identify evidence that addresses the particular estimate or judgement.
  • Distinguish key audit matters from other communications to those charged with governance. Do not assume every issue belongs in the KAM section.

Choose what comes next

Your results inform the knowledge map and personal practice priorities.

  • Separate business risk from the risk of material misstatement. Explain the affected balance or disclosure, assertion and reason for prioritising it.
  • Choose and justify materiality in context, then use it consistently when evaluating the identified issues.
  • Describe what evidence you would obtain, from which source and for what purpose. For group audits, link the work to assessed risk and the group auditor’s responsibility.
