ACCA FRFinancial Reporting

Learn to produce the figures and explain what they mean. FR combines accounting adjustments, group accounts and interpretation of a business’s performance.

The syllabus, connected

What FR asks you to do.

A · Reporting foundations

Understand why accounting rules exist and how the conceptual framework supports them.

B · Apply accounting standards

Recognise, measure and present transactions from assets and leases to revenue and tax.

C · Interpret performance

Use ratios with the scenario’s business facts, accounting choices and one-off events.

D · Prepare individual and group accounts

Bring adjustments into statements and consolidate acquisitions, goodwill and non-controlling interests.

E · Digital exam skills

Organise linked workings and write a supported interpretation in the response tools.

What the exam looks like

Three hours. A: 15 two-mark objective questions. B: three cases, five two-mark questions each. C: two 20-mark constructed responses, covering preparation and interpretation. Single-entity and group reporting both matter.

Prepare financial statements

Apply adjustments and show linked workings for an entity or a group.

Explain performance

Calculate requested ratios and use business facts to reach a conclusion for the specified user.

Apply a standard to a case

Choose the accounting treatment, relevant dates and measurement for a transaction.

Syllabus updates and the 2027 transition

ACCA’s 2026/27 summary lists no syllabus changes. Do not confuse this with IFRS 18’s legal effective date: use the exam’s own examinable-documents list and terminology.

March/June 2026

dates are highlighted to avoid mistakes with pro-rating
  • For held-for-sale assets, depreciate to the classification date, then compare carrying amount with fair value less selling costs. Do not automatically revalue upward at year end. A date-by-date working prevents several errors at once.

not adequately using the information in the scenario
  • Correct ratios are only the start of an interpretation. Answer the investment decision requested and explain the numbers using the scenario. Use the gearing definition supplied, even if another formula is more familiar.

Choose what comes next

Your results inform the knowledge map and personal practice priorities.

  • Measure first, then classify. For held-for-sale assets, update the carrying amount to the classification date and compare it with fair value less selling costs. A higher selling value is not an automatic gain.
  • Explain what caused the ratio to change. Show the formula and workings, connect movements to the scenario, and answer the requested investment or lending decision. Use IFRS 18 terminology where applicable.
  • Reconcile the consolidation adjustments. Eliminate intragroup balances and unrealised profit consistently; distinguish ownership percentages from the period whose income is consolidated.
